Cleaning needs to be practiced, not just for efficiency and effectiveness, but because it always needs to be done. After all, dirt and dust inevitably pile up, and you can’t stop that. But that doesn’t make cleaning a joy. Fret not, though: With these nine cleaning tips, you’ll have no problem getting the job done.
1. Use vinegar for electronics
You don’t need chemicals or expensive disinfectants to clean your laptop keyboard or phone screen. Dampen a paper towel or napkin with vinegar and use it to give your electronics a stern yet gentle wipe down. Vinegar can fight bacteria all over the house and in several different ways.
2. Rinse dishes with hot water immediately
After making a big meal in your kitchen, clean the dishes right away instead of waiting. Food clings harder the longer you wait. Give your used kitchen tools a hot water blast right away to save yourself some hard work scrubbing plates and pans.
3. Utilize dryer sheets
Did you know the active ingredients in dryer sheets can reduce burnt food residue on metal cookware? Put a dirty pan in the sink with soap, warm water, and a dryer sheet, and leave it for an hour or two. When you rinse it with clean water afterward, the mess will go down the drain too.
4. Clean your blender
Remove nasty gunk under the blades of your blender by pouring warm water, baking soda, and dish soap into your blender. Turn it on high for just a few seconds, then carefully disassemble it and put the pieces in the dishwasher. If you don’t have a dishwasher, scrub your blender and its blade down with a water bottle brush and dish soap instead.
5. Eliminate food stains
Erase those stubborn stains in wood cutting boards and all the crusted food on your glass refrigerator shelves by rubbing them with fresh lemon and salt. Allow the juices and salt to sit few minutes, then rub it in with a half-lemon rind and pulp before rinsing it away with hot water.
6. Freshen up with grapefruit
Halved lemon and salt also work wonders on mildew lines, especially in glass-door showers. Use a grapefruit the same way you’d use lemon in this context to erase grime lines in the bathtub. Try adding a little baking soda to the salt on your grapefruit or lemon for some extra strength cleaning.
7. Use vodka for more than drinking
If you’ve got mildew in your bathroom, fill a spray bottle with a 70%/30% mix of vodka and water, then spray it on the affected areas. Let it soak for approximately 10 minutes, and then wipe it away with a clean cloth or unused paper towels. The alcohol in the vodka not only cleans the mess but will kill the mildew spores completely.
8. Destroy mildew on your shower head
Visible mildew on your showerhead can cause respiratory health issues. Fill a sandwich bag with white vinegar, attach it to your showerhead with a rubber band, and leave it to soak overnight. Wipe it down in the morning to get rid of harmful mildew.
9. Get squeaky clean
Lastly, you can clean your mirrors, windows, and glass doors in your apartment with natural products. Once you’ve sprayed them down, repurpose old newspapers for a streak-free and lint-free clean.
