Stuff You’ll Need: The Bathroom + Kitchen Checklists

It’s easy to forget even the simplest of things when you’re balancing priorities of your move. This is a checklist of some bath and kitchen essentials for your first apartment:

Bathroom Checklist: 

  • Shower curtain
  • Shower rings
  • Shower liner
  • Towels (hand towels, bath towels)
  • Bath mat
  • Tissues
  • Toilet paper
  • Toothbrush holder
  • Toilet brush
  • Toilet plunger
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap, shaving cream, razor, etc.)
  • Air freshener
  • Over the door towel hook (if preferred)
  • Mini garbage can
  • Garbage can liners
  • Soap (hand soap and bathing soap)

Kitchen Checklist: 

  • Shelf liner (lots of it)
  • Dish soap
  • Sponges
  • Pots and pans
  • Cooking utensils (whisk, serving spoons, mixing spoons, etc.)
  • Plates
  • Cups
  • Eating utensils
  • Knife set for cooking (at least one good chef’s knife and paring knife)
  • Oven mitts
  • Colander
  • Mixing bowls
  • Cutting board
  • Bottle opener
  • Can opener
  • Toaster
  • Measuring cups
  • Saran wrap
  • Aluminum foil
  • Trash bags
  • Dish drying rack
  • Coffee maker or tea pot (if applicable)
  • Ice cube tray
  • Dish towels
  • Hand mixer
  • Blender
  • Ziploc bags
  • Don’t forget the FOOD!

Misc: 

  • Scissors
  • Paper towels
  • Cleaning items:
    • Clorox wipes or spray
    • Windex
    • Toilet bowl cleaner spray
    • Tile and tub cleaner spray
    • Steel wool pads
    • Broom
    • Dust pan
    • Mop
  • Over the counter medicines (ex: Advil, Benadryl, allergy medicine, NyQuil, DayQuil, etc.)
  • Fever thermometer

Don’t panic when you read this list. You will not have all of these items on day one. You can pick them up as you need them, or schedule a shopping trip to your favorite big box store (Target, Walmart, Bed, Bath and Beyond, etc.) when you can catch your breath.

On the moving day, all you’ll need is toilet paper, paper towels and a few cleaning supplies, so relax!
