In the renter community, IKEA is an undeniable life saver. Sure, the furniture can be a serious pain in the butt to put together and, yeah, the furniture can be kinda bland (but that can be fixed with a little creativity and craft supplies). But, overall, the design and cost leaves the Scandinavian furniture giant without competition in the minds of many apartment dwellers.
But, they’ve just raised the bar. Their new limited edition Sällskap Collection is nothing short of a renter’s dream come true, especially if said renter happens to inhabit a tiny apartment. Inspired by “the Scandinavian arts and crafts tradition and by the once groundbreaking ideas of rooms designed for the whole family,” this collection packs a serious punch with a plethora of multi-use, space-saving pieces. And, as usual, every item comes with a price tag your bank account will love.
The collection hits stores this month, but you can start snagging you favorite items from the limited edition collection online now (which we recommend — when the items are gone, they’re sadly gone forever). To give you a taste of all the awesomeness the Sällskap Collection has to offer, here’s a look at a few of our favorite pieces.
Our favorite piece of the entire collection, this cabinet is a win for several reasons. For starters, the classic aesthetic makes it a great addition to a room no matter your style preferences. From there, the compact size and the world of storage possibilities makes it soar straight to the top of our list. From dishes to clothes, this glass-door cabinet allows you to put your things on display in a way that adds fun texture and color to your space (or, if you aren’t down for putting your junk on display, simply add cloth or wrapping paper to the inside of the doors). Oh, and did we mention you can snag this baby for a cool $299?
A farmhouse-style table ($249) and bench seats ($129 each) are perfect for small space living because they are so versatile. When you’ve got a big crowd, long benches make it easy to squeeze around the table. But, the possibilities don’t stop here. Because the pieces are sold separately, you can get creative with how you utilize them: add a bench to the entrance of your apartment or the end of your bed for a little extra sitting space or place the table against the wall and purchase one bench for a workstation/dining set combo.
If your apartment is anything like my apartment, the place seriously lacks on storage. But, even if you’re lucky (major understatement here) enough to have a place fully equipped with cabinets and a closet or two, you can never go wrong with pieces that come with a little extra oomph. This mirror ($79.99) definitely comes with just that. We suggest hanging it in the bathroom to help alleviate cramped counter space or adding it to your favorite room and deck it out with a few colorful plants.
And another round of applause for extra storage. Cute, compact, and equipped with tons of under-the-seat storage space, this bench ($179) ranks high on our list of great finds for small apartments. We love it as a reading spot (like shown above) or as an addition to your dining set! Cushions (starting at $19.99) are sold separately, but we highly recommend them.
If the little storage bench above still seems mammoth compared to the space available in your tiny apartment (no worries, we fellow renters get you), then these storage chairs ($99 each) may just be the perfect alternative solution. Small in overall size, these chairs are also equipped with under-the-seat storage. According to IKEA, the hidden bins are “ideal for storing things like plastic bags, toilet/kitchen rolls, gloves and socks.”
We’ve touched on a few of our favorites, but this apartment-friendly collection also features decor, kitchen supplies, fabric, and much more. See the full Sällskap Collection here and comment below to tell us which items you’ll be grabbing for your place!
