Everyone loves a good TV binge and this weekend is perfect for catching up on all the Oscar-nominated movies* you have missed. Whether your choice is Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, or traditional cable TV marathons, there’s just something satisfying about spending an afternoon on the sofa catching up on your favorite shows. Until…it’s over. And you realize you just spent 4-8 hours in a sedentary position getting nothing on your “To-Do List” done.
It doesn’t have to be this way! By forcing yourself through even one of the following to-do’s, you can avoid that feeling of a wasted Saturday afternoon. Try to be a bit productive before your next TV binge, and enjoy!
1. Check 1 thing off the to-do list
Once you’re in your own place, to-do lists start piling up. From hanging that last set of curtains to (finally) organizing your coat closet, pick one item and complete it before you settle into the sofa! This will definitely be the most rewarding, because it’s probably been on your list for a while.
2. Do laundry
If you have a washer/dryer in your building or — lucky you!– in your apartment, this one’s a given during a TV marathon. Sure, you’ll have to get up to switch the laundry from the washer to dryer, but by the end of your marathon, you’ll have a week’s worth of fresh clothes! And you can fold while you finish up your last episode (which makes folding much easier).
3. Tidy the living room/kitchen
If there are a few things laying around and out of place in your living room or kitchen, take a few minutes to put them where they belong! Sort your mail, take out the garbage, put away clean dishes, or fluff your sofa pillows and fold throws. All of these little things add up!
4. Exercise
This may be the last thing you want to hear if you’re in the mood for some TV, but trust me, you’ll feel so much better after exercising! Even a brisk walk around the block or a few sets of squats will have you feeling more productive than before. Here are some easy apartment workouts to get started.
5. Make your bed
Most under-rated of them all is making your bed! This takes all of 30 seconds and makes a huge difference in your living space, especially in a studio.
TV binges can be a much-needed break from the “real world” and aren’t all bad. But by checking a few things off your to-do list before settling in, you’ll enjoy them even more!
*Ed. Note. At the Oscars, we’ll be rooting for Eddie Redmayne in The Danish Girl and Saoirse Ronan in Brooklyn. Who are your favorites?
