Let’s get organized!

Hi there! My name is Amanda and I’m an organization addict. It started with simple to-do lists and finding pleasure in crossing off each completed task, and has now spread to making sure every single thing in my apartment has a purpose and a place. My objective here is to help you, too, get organized and make your small space more livable, area by area. I know the majority of us live in studios or small rooms in shared apartments, so you’ll have to be creative to fit in spaces for eating, sleeping and hanging out with friends. I know, I know, easier said than done. But this summer I am going to help you do just that.

July will mark the start of my third year living in a very humble, just under 350 square foot, studio apartment. Like the majority of my friends, I found my apartment on Craigslist. Although the building itself looks a bit like a crime scene, (you can’t judge a Manhattan apartment until you walk through the door into the apartment itself) my apartment is charming. It has high ceilings, natural wood flooring and a fireplace… What more could a girl ask for? A lot, actually. Over the past two years I’ve worked really hard, on a very minimal budget, to transform my apartment into somewhere I want to come home to. Some projects have been a success, while others… well, not so much. Note: Paint does not look the same on your wall as it does in Home Depot on a tiny 2″x 2″ square. Choose your color very, very wisely!

A little bit about me… I just finished my junior year as an Advertising and Marketing Communications major and I’m now interning for a home and garden magazine. I love that I can mix two of my favorite things: writing and interior design. Unlike most twenty-year-old girls who are obsessed with shopping for the latest flats and skinny jeans, I’m obsessed with shopping for the latest pillow covers and lampshades.

So, here is to a summer of making changes… I’ll offer you advice on how to change the appearance of your apartment. As for the rest, you’re on your own!
