I should have added that bedbugs can (and do) hide in any furniture, not just beds. I was honestly a little bit sleepless the first few nights I spent with my new sofa, but thankfully the girl who gave it to me was honest. You can always try asking someone face-to-face when you show up and hope you take them by surprise--it's not like you ever have to see them again. ; ) Good point Anne!
